HVAC buying guide for Federal Way homeowners

Plan your project

Federal Way's marine climate keeps heat pumps working efficiently most of the winter, which is why so many replacement conversations here start with a heat pump comparison. For homes in Federal Way, compare proposals based on measured needs and cold-temperature performance — not just brand or advertised price.

Ask the contractor

• Will you evaluate heating and cooling loads before selecting capacity?
• How will you assess ducts, return air and airflow?
• Which specific models and efficiency ratings are proposed?
• Who handles permits, startup testing and warranties?

Check registration and compare bids

Before signing, verify the company through the Washington Labor & Industries contractor lookup and obtain written, itemized estimates. This guide does not publish an unverified “best” contractor ranking.
